For this December 2008 Follow Up to our feature story on Community Health Workers in India, we examined the Brain Drain of doctors from the developing world. Food Trails Gatefold

This special four-page double gatefold highlights food specialties throughout the United States, such as New England Chowder or Pacific Northwest coffee houses. I art directed the main illustration and three spots by illustrator Gary Hovland. The detailed typographic hierarchy was adapted from a new set of styles designed specifically for this special issue.

Costs of Living

Published in the September 2010 issue of National Geographic, this graphic shows how households in various nations spend their paychecks. I conceptualized and created this graphic from Euromonitor International data. The concentric circles reveal that households in poorer nations must spend a larger proportion of their paychecks on essentials, leaving little for other categories.

Smart Traveler: Farm Stays

For each issue of National Geographic Traveler, I work with our executive editor to design the three-page opener for our Smart Traveler departments section. This issue reported on upscale farm vacations in the U.S. and featured stock photography from each destination.

Yosemite to the Moon

Design for an eleven-page feature in the July/August 2011 issue of National Geographic Traveler magazine. Dmitri Alexander shot stunning photography as he hiked the John Muir trail at night. I used transparency and a color gradient over my type to highlight the beautiful night sky.
